RBS 2021 Summer Concert Recital Information
This year’s recital will be pre-recorded and held virtually via a live streamed watch party on Saturday, June 5th at 6:00pm . Closer to the date we will provide you with the link to watch (this will be via a private YouTube LIVE video)!
We are offering three options for the performance and recording of your recital performances!
OPTION 1: ( $20 ) If you’d like to record from home we’ve prepared some instructions for getting the best video and audio quality at home (you’ll find this below). You’ll be able to submit these videos by May 23rd (or earlier), for them to be professionally mixed/mastered/edited together to create our final recital performance!
OPTION 2: ( $40 ) The second option is to record and film your performances here at Red Bridge Studios. Our engineer Dimitri will have everything set up for you when you come in and will operate the recording and filming of your performance from the control room. The microphones, headphones, and other equipment will be sanitized before your appointment. Your voice teacher may also be present to help you through the process and ensure you are getting the best take. Please have your backing tracks emailed to Dimitri ahead of time at dimitrifantini@gmail.com and the studio will be prepared to have you! These videos will then be incorporated into the recital livestream on June 5th and will be available to you afterwards! (Available for anyone who feels comfortable AND who has signed our waiver - attached below)
OPTION 3: ( $60 ) The third option is the same as the second option, but with the addition of a live pianist, provided by Red Bridge . Our accompanist, Isaiah, will be ready to play in the studio with you (from 6ft apart, while wearing a mask for safety). You can PDF your music to Isaiah ahead of time at isaiah.shim.music.@gmail.com and he will be ready to accompany you live for your take. No physical music may be transferred day-of for safety reasons.
Red Bridge will be booking recital recordings at the studio on Fridays/Saturdays/Sundays between May 7th and 23rd .
Please email redbridgestudios14@gmail.com to obtain an appointment. Please follow up directly with your studio teachers to discuss which option you'd like to pursue.
Here are a few tips for home recording if you choose to film at home. Please don't hesitate to contact us with any further questions.
THIS article is a good starting point for good practices when filming/recording at home. It can be summed up as
1. Use a tripod or prop your phone up to keep the camera steady. This will look and SOUND better than handheld. Film in landscape (wide) mode - NOT vertical.
2. The more light the better - natural window light will typically look best. Simply stand near a window and adjust your phone camera's exposure so that it's not overexposed. Make sure the light is on your face - you don't want to be "backlit" with the light behind you.
3. Use the exposure lock feature of your iPhone - tap and hold down on the screen when focusing and the exposure will "lock." This will prevent the camera from automatically adjusting the lighting and ruining a shot mid-take.
4. Keep the phone (and therefore microphone) CLOSE to the subject for the best audio quality. For example, if your phone is close enough to just see your head and shoulders, it will sound MUCH better than if it was several more feet away.
5. Accompaniment - playing back music via a second device is the simplest solution here. Do some test performances to adjust the volume of the music to balance with your voice. We're recording 1920's style so there's no adjusting the music balance afterwards!!
6. Send the video files via wetransfer.com or Google Drive to dimitrifantini@gmail.com to be professionally mixed, color corrected, and edited into the final recital performance!
Thank you all for coming on this new and exciting journey with us, as we continue to look for ways to combine our passions of music and recording technology in new and exciting ways. We can't WAIT to see and celebrate all of the progress you've made this year with your teachers!
