The curriculum at Camp Mel focuses on The American Songbook, musicianship, improvisation, jazz history, solo and ensemble singing, and culminates with a performance alongside distinguished guest artists.
Camp Mel offers a unique and wonderful opportunity for young women to study vocal jazz and the art of improvisation. In addition to learning a diverse palette of musicianship skills and stylistic repertoire, participants will develop techniques to help them prepare for college auditions and supplement a portfolio for future auditions and applications.
Vocal improvisation is a challenging and rewarding experience that nurtures personal growth. Both individual and group musical training cultivate self-expression, confidence, and offer the opportunity for singers to make informed and intuitive decisions, solve problems and take risks. Camp Mel fosters communication and leadership skills, cooperation, teamwork and the spirit of building community.
The Camp Mel program uses a musical platform to teach young women how to gracefully tackle challenges, set and reach personal goals and, most importantly, allow themselves to feel the sense of pride, joy and accomplishment that comes with achievement.

Vocal Audition Intensive - Alison Pybus Take this audition season by storm with the confidence of being fully prepared. Our Audition Intensive will give you invaluable feedback on your materials, audition aria package, presentation and musical preparation from experienced professionals, as well as offer guidance about when to sing for Young Artist Programs, Opera Companies, and/or management agencies. The Intensive will include one-on-one interaction with our distinguished panelists, round table discussions, Q&A sessions, and mock auditions. Panelists include Alison Pybus Personal Management, former VP of IMG Classical Artists New York, James Harp, Artistic Director of Lyric Opera of Baltimore, and Eileen Cornett, Opera Coach at Peabody Conservatory. |
