Brendan Curran, voice
A born-and-raised Alaskan, Brendan Curran enjoyed a childhood steeped in music and theater. He began playing percussion, piano, and singing in grade school; inspired by his mother’s life-long love of singing, he completed degrees in vocal performance from the University of Northern Colorado and Peabody Conservatory. The broad curriculum of his studies in opera, commercial vocal styles, and choral singing served him well during his career as a Special Bandsmen with The United States Army. During his sixteen years with the military, Brendan was a highly valued vocalist known for his stylistic versatility and facility with languages. His experience as a music educator includes early childhood classes, private lessons with children, and clinics with students of all ages. With students, he explores the energy of vocal music through the foundations of breath, rhythm, and text, with an emphasis on storytelling and lyric diction. He believes passionately in the enriching power of communal singing all across levels of vocal training, and is excited to share musically advanced skills like vocal percussion and jazz improvisation (scat singing) with eager learners.
